As publisher he works with editors of the journals to select and publish high-quality papers in various fields of chemistry and to constantly improve the quality of the journals. In addition, he is involved in setting up new publications and developing new tools and services for journals. He has also worked for other publishers like Springer, Kluwer, Brill and Sage. He obtained his PhD in organic chemistry at the University of Groningen in 1997. Lecture abstract: Doing scientific research is a skill. Writing down your results in a good scientific paper and getting published is a different skill. This presentation will provide insight into the publishing process and will explain the organization of scientific journals, the different kind of journals and the peer-review process. The correct way to write a manuscript is outlined and common mistakes will be discussed. It will become clear what editors are looking for when selecting papers to publish and the main reasons for them to reject a paper. Finally the rules around publishing ethics are presented and advice is given how to attract readers and citations to your paper. |
