He obtained his BSc (1990) from The University of Tokyo under the supervision of Professor Atsushi Ishizu and his MSc (1993) from The University of Tokyo under the supervision of Professor Koichi Narasaka. He joined Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation in 1993. During his organic process research at Mitsubishi, he obtained his PhD (1998) from The University of Tokyo under the supervision of Professor Takeshi Kitahara and had been working as a post-doctoral fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the supervision of Professor Gregory C. Fu (Nov 1999�Dec 2001). After going back to Mitsubishi, he moved to Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology as an associate professor in Oct 2002 and promoted to a professor in Apr 2009. In Apr 2014, he moved to Tokyo Institute of Technology as a professor. His research is focused on novel transition-metal-catalyzed reactions and their application to organic synthesis.
