Personal Profile

Prof. Dr. Dongzhong Chen,Professor and Associate Director of Department of Polymer Science and Engineering and Key Laboratory of High Performance Polymer Materials and Technology of Ministry of Education, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University, PR China. Dr. Chen studied polymer chemistry in Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST, Wuhan, Hubei Province) and got his Bachaelor’s degree in 1988. After obtained his Master degree on Polymer Chemistry and Physics as an excellent graduate from Nanjing University in 1991, he started his research and teaching career from the same year in Nanjing University, his early rearch mainly focused on high performance functional polymer materials such as special adhesives, sealants and coatings and awarded with the First-Class Prize on Advance of Science & Technology and Outstanding Contribution Award for Engineering Transfer. Thereafter, he was conferred the PhD degree in the same major in 1998 and promoted as associate professor in 1999. After two years’ postdoctoral research in USA @Wayne State University and @University of Georgia from July, 2002 to August, 2004, Dr. Chen returned Nanjing University in 2004 and was promoted as the full professor in 2006. Prof. Chen is serving as a principal investigator of many projects sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Administration Bureau of Science and Technology of Jiangsu Province, and other institutes or companies. Prof. Chen has published more than 80 peer-reviewed papers and several invited book chapters, and also co-authored 2 textbooks and authorized several innovation patents. His recent research interests are mainly focusing on liquid crystalline polymers and other self-assembly systems and supramolecular materials, controlled synthesis of functional (co)polymers and their mediated biomimetic inorganic crystallization to achieve advanced inorganic-organic nanocomposites.
