Abstract for Lecture:
Understanding how molecules interact in aqueous solutions has ramifications across the biosphere, lithosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere.   Our research focuses on this aqueous supramolecular  chemistry,  and  this  presentation  will focus  on two  aspects  of our work  with water-soluble,  deep-cavity  cavitands: 1) Examining  how these hosts and their 1:1 complexes with anions can be used to probe – at the molecular level – the Hydrophobic and Hofmeister Effects;1-3 2) studying  how dimeric, supramolecular  capsules assembled  via the Hydrophobic Effect can be used to bring about novel separation protocols. 4-6

Bruce C. Gibb教授背景简介:
Bruce C. Gibb教授现为美国杜兰大学(Tulane University)化学系教授,是著名的有机超分子化学家。其主要研究领域包括有机超分子主体合成、主客体识别及分子组装、超分子纳米反应器和药物分子传输等方向的研究。
Gibb教授是Nature子刊Nature-Chemistry的特邀专栏评论员,主要针对被广泛关注的学术问题进行评论,自2009年以来已发表近20余篇评论文章。Gibb教授主持了包括美国NSF, NIH在内的多项基金,其研究成果发表在如自然-化学 (Nature-Chemistry), 美国国家科学院院刊 (PNAS), 美国化学会志(J. Am. Chem. Soc.), 德国应用化学 (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.)以及化学会综述(Chem. Soc. Rev)等高水平杂志上,部分研究成果被选为封面文章,其重要发现曾被Nature杂志进行过专文介绍,并受邀撰写多部专著及章节。Gibb教授是国际期刊超分子化学 (Supramolecular Chemistry) 的共同主编,同时也是十余种国际期刊的特约审稿人。现为“大环及超分子化学国际会议”组委会(ISMSC)、“杯芳烃国际会议”组委会成员,多次担任国际会议的大会主席及分会主席,受邀参加国际学术会议及口头报告150余次。
 
 
Research Interests:
Aqueous supramolecular chemistry: design, synthesis and analysis of molecular hosts, host-guest complexes and self-assembling systems to identify novel properties of supramolecular systems and contribute to the development of better molecular-scale models of the Hydrophobic and Hofmeister Effects.
